Department

The Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology has five professorships and is the largest of its kind in Germany. The department offers a wide range of courses and maintains numerous co-operations, amongst others with the Global South Studies Center (GSSC). In addition, Cologne is a very international city and an exciting starting point for anthropology.

The department focuses on socioeconomics, human-environment relations, globalization and translocal mobility as well as media anthropology. The regional focus is on the continents of Asia and Africa. The department is oriented towards complex present-day questions and attaches particular importance to methodological questions in research and teaching.
